The " Éléments de Musique" by d’Alembert includes two parts: 1) a general theory on harmony, 2) a summary of the rules of composition.
Second expanded edition of this book first published in 1752.
As the title suggests, the mathematician remains faithful to Rameau’s concepts (1737 Génération harmonique), who made the remark, in May 1752: “M. d’Alembert [...] perused my books [...] for truths to simplify, to make more familiar, brighter, and therefore of greater use to more people [...].
Copy bound in a period binding, in half lambskin with a smooth spine adorned with a mosaic label and gilded roulettes.
Sturdy volumes, faded leather, uncovered headcap, the beginning of splits in the four joints first joint split. 2 blunted corners. Interior in good condition as a whole, some rare foxing, one loose signature.
