Reprint of the 1911 edition published by Deplanche Paris with new foreword and new translations.

30 short poems by Apollinaire about all kinds of semi mythical animals originally published in 1908 in La Phalange, an experimental journal. He approached Picasso to illustrate a special edition but was turned down.  Raoul Dufy took his place.  A number of composers have set the poems to music most notably Francis Poulenc.
